Tools: Transition to Electromobility in Costa Rica
In the context of the technical assistance provided to Costa Rica on public transport electrification, requested by the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity (ICE) from ECLAC, three key documents have been developed:
1. Development of the CO2 Credit Market Resulting from Electromobility in Costa Rica and in Accordance with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement
2. Identification of the Challenges Arising from the Regulatory Framework Applicable to Public Transport Bus Concessions in Costa Rica
3. Retrofit of E-Buses: Study of the Economic and Financial Impact for the Conversion of Electric Vehicles and Their Accessories
These documents aim to disseminate relevant information about the transition to public electromobility in Costa Rica to a broad audience, including legislative, technical, and private sectors. The goal is to foster discussions that incorporate various perspectives on the topic, facilitating decision-making and the development of public policies for this transition.
The technical assistance has conducted studies and proposals presented in these documents, along with a publication that synthesizes all the studies carried out. The goal is to promote the creation of electromobility policies in public transportation, highlighting their comparative advantages.
This initiative is part of the project “Inclusive, Sustainable, and Smart Cities – CISI II” under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean. The project is implemented by ECLAC in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of Germany.
