Act N° 25 of 1946 - Town and Country Planning Act - Guyana

A Local Authority or a joint committee duly authorized in that behalf may by resolution 

(a)    Decide to prepare a scheme in respect to any land within the area specified in the resolution and within the jurisdiction of the authority or jurisdiction of the constituent authorities, as the case may be; or 

(b)    Adopt, with or without modifications, a scheme proposed by all or any of the owners of such land. 

 

The duty of carrying out the provisions of this Act, including the due execution and enforcement of any scheme in accordance therewith, shall (subject to the limitations and conditions hereinafter contained) be vested in the Central Housing and Planning Authority (…).

In this Act: 

“Local Authority” means the Georgetown City Council and the New Amsterdam Town Council or the council of any other town or any other government district established under the Municipal and District Councils Act, within the representative jurisdiction and any other authority which the Minister shall declare to be a Local Authority for the purposes of this Act, and within the area and to the extent specified in such order.
