The area painted on the map corresponds to metropolitan agglomerates' conformation and cities with 20 thousand or more inhabitants. It is given special treatment and the following criteria are used: i) review of the country's official definition, ii) cartographic and urban continuity analysis through Google Earth, and iii) discussion with national specialists. Therefore, the urban area defined by DEPUALC may differ from that adopted by national institutions.
