Sistema de planificación urbano de Trinidad y Tobago

Los procesos de planificación territorial en Trinidad y Tobago se rigen por en la Ley de Planificación y Facilitación del Desarrollo (2010) que presupone la creación de esquemas tanto en el ámbito nacional como subnacional. El gobierno central y sus autoridades de planificación tienen un papel clave en ambos niveles. Además, en los últimos años se han presentado varios instrumentos nacionales que incluyen aspectos de planificación urbana y territorial, por ejemplo, Visión 2030 - la Estrategia Nacional de Desarrollo de Trinidad y Tobago 2016-2030 y la Estrategia Nacional de Desarrollo Espacial (ENDE). Proponen varias estrategias para abordar los temas de vivienda accesible, infraestructura, desarrollo urbano sostenible y asentamientos humanos prósperos. Esto marca una guía para nuevos avances en el Estado caribeño.

Land-use planning has traditionally focused on the regulation and control of land. Spatial planning takes a wider, more inclusive approach. By addressing economic, social and environmental matters in an integrated way, it aims to balance and mediate between competing demands, seeking to achieve optimum use of the national space as a crucial resource.
Spatial planning considers all matters that influence, and are influenced by, the ways in which space is used. This includes, for example, transport and movement; health and health-care; education; employment; and, crime deterrence.
